Not every luxury hotel in Biarritz puts the ocean at your door.
Choose badly and you watch the sea from behind glass. We set the top addresses side by side, by location, style, facilities and price, so you know which one is right for you.
Which luxury hotel in Biarritz suits your stay, and your budget?
Biarritz has five serious answers. Choose by what you came for, not by the postcard.
- Hôtel du Palais for palace heritage and direct access to the Grande Plage
- Sofitel Biarritz Le Miramar Thalassa Sea & Spa for a disciplined thalassotherapy programme
- Regina Experimental for Belle Époque drama, when it reopens
- Beaumanoir for privacy
- Le Talaia Hotel & Spa Biarritz for a rooftop stay

Hôtel du Palais: a palace that makes no apologies
The hotel stands at 1 Avenue de l’Impératrice, directly above the Grande Plage. You hear the surf and smell the salt air. The Casino Barrière is a few steps away.
Walk down the stairs to the sand, then climb back to an indoor pool, a heated Californian seawater pool, and the Club Impérial with its private cabanas. Most guests never leave the property. You might not either.
The Spa Impérial Guerlain spreads over 2,500 square metres with nine treatment rooms:
- An indoor counter-current pool
- A sauna and a hammam
- A jetted tub and a solarium
- A fitness area
Spa access runs from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., treatments from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. A 60-minute Imperial Guerlain Massage costs €190 and includes spa access during the listed seasonal offer.
See the waterline, the pool deck and the palace interiors in a full property tour. Photographs make this place still. Motion reveals its force.
Sofitel Biarritz Le Miramar Thalassa Sea & Spa: the thalasso specialist
Choose this one when wellness outranks theatre. Its 126 rooms and suites all include a private terrace, in six categories:
- Classic
- Superior
- Superior Ocean
- Luxury
- Superior Suite
- Prestige Suite
The views run from the city and its architecture to partial ocean or open Atlantic.
The address is 13 rue Louison Bobet, beside Miramar Beach and a short walk from the centre. Sand at the door, restaurants nearby, and enough distance to feel like a marine retreat rather than a city base.
Six-night thalassotherapy programmes start around €1,926 per person. The €150 starting rate in the table is for a room-led stay, not a full treatment programme.
Regina Experimental: Belle Époque with sharper edges
Regina Experimental occupies a restored Belle Époque building above the ocean, at 52 avenue de l’Impératrice. It sits close to Biarritz Lighthouse, Grande Plage, Miramar Beach and the luxury boutiques.
A 15-metre atrium, a glass roof, Art Deco details and saturated colour reject the pale, predictable language of coastal luxury.
One hard fact changes the ranking. Regina Experimental is temporarily closed for building enhancements, with reopening planned for summer 2027.
For a future stay it is the most expressive design choice here. For a booking this season, it is not available.
Do not build this season’s stay around it. Choose one of the other four hotels for a booking now.
Beaumanoir: the confidential manor
Beaumanoir is the intimate outlier, a restored 1885 manor in the leafy Parc d’Hiver. Only eight accommodations sit behind the gates: four rooms, two suites and two apartments.
At that scale, the arrival is quiet and the garden feels like it belongs to your party alone.
Starting prices rise with the size of the accommodation:
- Rooms: from about €495
- Suites: from about €695
- Apartments: from approximately €895
- Largest presidential apartment: about €3,995
Standard rooms bring king-size beds, marble bathrooms, Bulgari products, minibars, modern electronics and park views. Suites and apartments add separate living space and real family capacity.
Le Talaia Hotel & Spa Biarritz: the rooftop choice
Le Talaia Hotel & Spa Biarritz sits at 1 Carrefour Hélianthe, minutes from Les Halles, Bibi Beaurivage and Côte des Basques. Its 149 rooms and suites run from Superior Rooms of 25 square metres to 50-square-metre Suites, with Family Rooms and ocean-facing suites in between.
The rooftop is the point. La Petite Plage occupies the fifth floor, serving Éric Frechon’s seasonal French and Basque cuisine, with a cocktail bar and sunset views over the coast.
The heated rooftop pool is for hotel guests only. It runs seasonally from April to October, closing from November 1 to April 1.
Indoor parking costs €30 per day and must be reserved in advance. The hotel also offers 16 connecting rooms, the most practical rooftop address for families who want the view without losing room configuration.
Decide by what you came for, then commit to it. The palace, the thalasso programme, the manor or the rooftop each give Biarritz a different face. Regina Experimental belongs to a later trip, not this one. Keep it on your list for summer 2027, and take one of the others for now.
Frequently asked questions

Biarritz charges tourist tax all year on paid stays, at 5% of the pre-tax nightly price per occupant.
A 10% departmental surcharge applies on top, and guests under 18 are exempt.
How do you reach Biarritz from the airport?
Biarritz Pays Basque Airport is about 4 kilometres from the city centre, and Txik Txak bus line 3 connects the airport with the city.
A single ticket costs €1.40, including the rechargeable card. A private transfer takes about five minutes by car.
Can you visit Biarritz without renting a car?
Yes, the Txik Txak bus network links the airport, train station, beaches, centre and nearby towns.
Many central districts are reachable on foot, but a private transfer is easier for families, heavy luggage or a tight schedule.
